    New Regional Market Rate Survey

The California Department of Education (CDE) is again surveying providers to establish new regional market rates (RMRs).

Not all providers will receive the survey, but it is important for those that do to respond to it.

Please let us know if you have received a survey, been contacted by telephone, or if you know another provider who has received the survey in the mail.

It is important that CDE knows what providers are facing in the field, so providers need to communicate their current working conditions and costs to the department as well as the needs of the children in their community.

If you receive a survey in the mail, please fill it out as best you can and return it promptly to the address included in the survey.

If you have questions, please call Joe Wilson at 510-325-7858 or Rosie Kennedy at 415-859-1081.

    Unemployment On The rise

Unemployment is high because of the decisions of the Republicans in the senate. I lost my best teacher due to funding, I had to lay her off. Many of the parents in our neighborhood have had their hours cut or completely laid off, this invariable has affected enrollment with Child Care Information services, since pre-requisites for enrollment are inter-woven with employment or school/training. All in name of "Politics" the Republicans have created unimaginable hardship on struggling families and small businesses in our neighborhood.

    Economy In Default

My mortgage has not been paid neither has my electric bill or telephone, these utility companies shut-off services due to unpaid bills. Although now reinstated, I wonder what my fate will be this month if I fail to pay my mortgage for the second month. The prior payment arrangement plan has defaulted due to non-payment for services provided. This situation that the Republicans got us into is exercibating situations for the small business owners.

    Underprivalged families

Caring People Alliance (Child and Adult Care Food Program Provider) that provides grant to my facility has not paid my facility since the end of June 09 due to funding, this organization usually pays two months in arears (two months after services has been provided), currently this is the third month we are yet to be funded, how then do the senate expect us to carry out our obligations to numerous underprivalged families that we carter to.

    No Child Left Behind

Brilliant idea and currently well funded in our public schools. I believe that the growth of Elementary/High School education is contingent upon effective Headstart. This is also true that for us as a society to bridge the academic disparative, early childhood education/Headstart programs must be well funded. Child Care Centers/Group/Family are that "Village It Takes To Rise A Family" Without good and solid fundation in their early years a child will struggle with their ecademic pursuit and challenges. If this concept holds true, how then do we want to destroy the "Hen that Lays The Golden Egg" We are stiffled and choked many of us are closing our doors, some are bankcrupt and many have cutailed services while many sooner or later will start compromising standards.

My personal opinion "It is immoral for the politicians to hold back resources geared toward enhancement of children's education and general well being while they argue and debate over spending cuts. If the money is not available I can understand but the money is available because of the stimulus package, then it is imparative for them to at least pay what they have previously paid while they try to balance excess.
